Unlike the past decades, your certificate alone is the requirement to secure a good job. As it applied before the age of economic depression, the system was go to school, get good grades and then the job is yours. Skills were not necessary but the opposite is the opposite is the case now.
Yet, so many people fail to see the opportunities that are available in this current age of financial meltdown. It is generally believed to be a period when job search is futile in all efforts due to the fact that organizations will announce downsizing which will lead to laying off some core members of staff in order to reduce payments on wages and salaries with the motive of striking a balance between the income and expenditures. If the actualized profit is not equal or more than the expenses incurred, then it means that some people will still be laid off.
At this juncture, it is only the people that are well skillful, together with their academic qualifications that will be left to continue functioning in their specific area of discipline.
However, this should be a challenge to modern graduates who are searching for jobs in these current times. Apart from your academic qualifications, you must get yourself registered in a skill acquisition center that fits your course of study in the university because you are not likely to be gainfully employed if the required skills are not there.
If you fall into the category of people that are of the belief that searching for good jobs in times like this is merely a waste of time, then you are getting it wrong. It is a fact that some people are laid off but it is not everybody - except if the company has gone bankrupt or is about to be closed down as the case may be in times of financial crisis.
The few people that will be left to continue working will be the ones that are well grounded in skills and knowledge which could well be tailored towards achieving the goals and objectives of the organization. This is so because most organizations would have weighed the activities of their members of staff in such a way that some of them will be referred to as active while some will be inactive. It is the inactive ones that will be retrenched.
Besides, I will like to get majority of people informed that companies are thirsty of the services of young, vibrant and skill individuals, regardless of economic crisis, they are ready to pay huge sums as salaries in order for them to achieve their set goals.
As discussed earlier, the word downsizing means most companies are going down financially and it is at this period that the stock brokers become friends with the capital market. This automatically means that stock brokers are enemies to employees while they are friends to investors.
